I didn’t pick up. I didn’t want to talk to her right now. I was still upset about the concert tonight, so I figured she could wait until the morning.

Phil and I stopped to get some burgers along the way. We made it back to the hotel around 3 am and we were exhausted. We didn’t bother going through the back door. Luckily the front entrance was empty so it was no need for us to hide.

“Are you happy now?” Phil leaned against the elevator wall and rubbed his eyes. “No.” I looked down. “I still didn’t get the answers I was looking for. I’m still not okay with Arie, and we leave today at 4. She’s away and that’s another year of me not seeing her.”

Phil could sense the stress. “Calm down man, we’ll figure something out. Let’s just get some rest. You’re probably tired.” We left the elevator and went to our rooms. My phone vibrated again. I looked and it was Arie.

“Hello?” “Hey babe, I got your message.” I didn’t reply. I wanted her to explain herself and her actions. “Well, I’m finally here. I landed a few hours ago. How was your show?” I could hear a bit of calmness in her voice. “It was good. We did great.”

I heard her smile through her words. “Lovely. I miss you.” I smiled. “I miss you too Arie.” We talked about her flight and the restaurant with the guys. I didn’t mention the meeting with Steven. I felt it wasn’t necessary since she didn’t do anything. Right?

“I’m glad you picked up.” She began apologizing for the other day, I couldn’t stay mad at her. “It’s okay baby.” I yawned and stretched out onto my bed. “Arie, I love you, but I need some sleep.” I blew a kiss and hung up. I threw my phone on the other end of my bed. It vibrated again. I looked at it thinking it was Arie. I was wrong. It was a random number….

He laughed. “I am Steven. Who exactly are you looking for?” I took out the piece of paper and showed him. “This guy named Steven gave me this address about a year ago. He told me to come here about Arie.” Steven looked puzzled.

“You know Arie?” I shook my head. “She’s my girlfriend. We’ve been dating for a year.” Steven whispered something to the girl. She walked away toward the kitchen. “You gentlemen have a seat. I know what happened here.” We sat down and waited for him to continue.

“My son’s name is Steven also. Young, blonde, buff, senior in college. Maybe he asked you to come.” His description sounded so familiar. “Yeah that’s him.” Big Steven nodded. “He’ll be right down. Parker is going to get him.” The girl’s name was Parker.

We sat in silence until young Steven came downstairs. He didn’t age a bit. He still looked like a child. “Can I help you?” he approached us. It took him a minute to register my face. “Oh right, Arie’s guy. Yeah, how’s it going?” he held out his hand for me to shake it.

I stood and greeted him. “I’m pretty good. Is there anywhere we can go to talk… Alone?” Steven got my drift and nodded for us to follow him to the patio. The three of us sat at a round table and didn’t speak. Steven broke the silence.

“Well, what do you want to know?” I raised my eyebrow. “What do you mean what do I want to know? I want to know what happened with Arie and you.” Phil started tapping the table. Steven paused for a moment. “Oh yeah, that day at Sinclair’s.” I nodded slowly waiting for more.

“Arie came to one of my dad’s photo parties. He just did a 12 page spread for Vouge and Arie was featured in 5 pages. She was drinking and partying with the other models and I guess she had a little too much to drink. She started flirting with the male models but she wasn’t their type if you know what I mean. Anyway, my turn came around. We made out and almost had sex but Parker walked into the room to tell Arie it was time to cut the cake. I doubt she remembers it.”

I didn’t speak. I couldn’t speak. All this time I was expecting something big and major, but they just kissed. I smirked a little at how foolish I was to think Arie would actually do something to hurt me. I looked at Phil who was already smiling.

“Thanks for that. Well, we’re gonna head home now. I appreciate you taking the time to clear the air.” I stood up and walked toward the stairs leading down to the bottom of the building. We were pretty high up but I wanted to talk to Phil on the way down.

Steven walked back into the apartment. “If you need anything else, you know where I live.” Once he shut the door, Phil began talking. “All of this for that?” I laughed. “I feel better now that I know it wasn’t as bad as I guess it to be.”

We continued walking down the stairs as the night got later. “You owe me some food Bruno.” Phil’s stomach was still rumbling. I laughed as my phone vibrated in my pocket. I figured it was the guys looking for us. Unfortunately, I was wrong… it was Arie.

Phil held the elevator door open. We both just stopped and stared. “Are you guys looking for someone?” I walked off and walked towards her. “Uh, yeah. I got this note a while ago from a guy named Steven..” Her face lit up. “Oh! You know Steven? Come in. He stepped out a minute ago. He’ll be right back.” I turned to Phil to see if he wanted to sit and wait. His eyes said no.

“It’s okay, we’ll come back tomorrow, we have to go get some dinner anyway.” I turned and headed back to the elevator when she spoke to us again. “You guys hungry? I was in the middle of cooking dinner. I have plenty.” Phil walked off of the elevator and towards the apartment.

We walked in and it smelled like Chinese food. “What exactly are you making?” Phil couldn’t stop sniffing. “Asian chicken, broccoli and cheese casserole, and some Asian stir fry. You guys like that?” we both nodded.

We sat down on the couch and looked around. The apartment was huge and spacious. It reminded me of a studio loft. “So are you married to Steven?” I tried to start a conversation. She laughed. “Hell no, I’m here visiting him. I live in Florida. He’s just a good friend of mine.” I nodded. “That’s cool. We’re from California.” She laughed again.

“I know, you’re Bruno Mars. I know a few of your songs. So are you doing a album cover with Steven or something?” I didn’t know what she meant. “What? An album cover?” she stopped cooking and brought us our plates of food. It looked amazing. “Yeah, how do you know him? He’s a big time photographer here in London.”

I looked at Phil. He knew what I was hinting at. “Uh, no actually. He knows my girlfriend… Arie.  She’s a model.” Her eyes widened. “Arie? Arianna!? Oh my gosh, her photos are amazing.” She ran off and returned with a huge folder. “Look! I envy her beautiful skin. It’s tanned perfectly and her hair is gorgeous.”

She flipped through the portfolio and showed us her favorites. They were all beautiful. I’ve never seen Arie’s work until now. It made me love her even more to know how perfect she was. “So, have you met Arie?” I took a scoop of casserole. “Oh yeah, lots of times. She was over like a few days ago. She had to talk to Steven about something.” At that moment the door opened. “Oh, Steven’s here!” The half naked girl walked to the door. I heard faint voices. “Uh, Bruno Mars is here for you.” I wiped my mouth and stood up to greet Steven. I was taken back at the older man who stood in front of me. “Uh are you Steven?” Phil surveyed the tall slender man. He looked about 45.

“Yes, and you must be Phillip Lawrence, Bruno’s friend.” He removed his hat and threw it on the couch. “How can I help you gentlemen?” He smiled and his skin stretched over his bony cheeks. “You aren’t the Steven that I know. Who are you?”
